TOPIC

    Configuration:

    - Apple PowerBook Fax/Modem Software
    - PowerBook 100, 4MB RAM
    - System 7.0.1

The software is slow to image a page and get it ready to fax. It can take up to 2.5 minutes to image a single page. It appears to me that this may have something to do with the presence of ATM in my system, but I haven't really pinned it down exactly.

However, a PSI PowerModem (or, rather, the software that accompanies it), on the identical PowerBook 100 configuration (hardware and software), gets the same page ready to transmit in about 15 seconds, a tenfold speed improvement.

Even though it works in the background, there are times when I want the fax sent right away. I've had to wait five minutes to send a short fax.

DISCUSSION

To help speed things up, change the Fax Page Setup Image Quality from "Fine" to "Standard."
