TOPIC

I am about to install AppleShare 3.0 on a new network consisting of four Macintosh Quadra systems. I understand that I can have both file and printing services on one server. However, can these two functions be split and placed on two separate systems, and would there be any performance improvement if I did this?

As my network grows and I add more nodes, possibly up to 10, will a Macintosh Quadra server with both services handle these functions as well as a setup with the file server on a Macintosh Quadra and the print server on another Macintosh?

DISCUSSION

The AppleShare 3.0 File Server and Print Server are separate applications and can be used independently.

Splitting these two functions may improve processing time; however, in your proposed environment of 10 nodes, the gain would be minimal.
