    * To show the correct version of system software

Occasionally, my Macintosh Quadra gives me the error message, "This disk is
unreadable, do you want to initialize?" -- with "Eject or Initialize" as my
options. This happens only when I have a CD-ROM or other removable media
(such as a cartridge drive) connected.

DISCUSSION

This is caused by a harmless SCSI Manager bug that is fixed in System Software
version 7.1. This seems to happen randomly with Quadras and System 7.01 when
you have a CD-ROM or other removable-media devices connected.

When you get this error message, click the Eject button. If you click the
Initialize button, you'll get this message, "Initialization failed! This
disk is write-protected!" with an "OK" button.
