    QuickTime movies on UNIX File System (UFS) partitions do not play in the Preview pane of Column view.

DISCUSSION

    Symptom

    Selecting a QuickTime movie in the Finder shows a QuickTime icon in the Preview pane of Column view, but the movie does not play.

    Solution

    Copying the file to a Mac OS Extended (HFS Plus) partition allows the Finder to play the movie. Atlertatively, you may leave the movie on the UFS volume and open it with QuickTime Player.
