TOPIC

MP2-encoded audio files that play back in QuickTime Player in Mac OS 9 may not play in Mac OS X Public Beta.

DISCUSSION

    Symptom

You play an MP2-encoded audio file in QuickTime Player under Mac OS X Public Beta, and the insertion point indicator and clock indicate that the file is playing. However, QuickTime Player produces no sound. The Movie Info window indicates that the format is Base.

    Products affected
    • Mac OS X Public Beta
    • QuickTime Player application
    • Music Player application

    Solution

    There are two workarounds:
    • Encode future audio files in the MP3 audio format.
    • To play existing MP2 audio, use the Mac OS 9 version of the QuickTime Player in the Classic environment to open the files.

A future version of Mac OS X may work with MP2-encoded audio files.
