TOPIC Disk First Aid 8.5.5 may incorrectly indicate MountCheck errors on the Mac OS X Public Beta startup volume as a part of normal use.
DISCUSSION
Symptom Disk First Aid 8.5.5 finds the following error on the Mac OS X Public Beta startup disk: "Problem: MountCheck found minor errors."
Disk First Aid may report that the error was successfully repaired. But if you click Verify again, the error persists. The Disk Utility application included with Mac OS X Public Beta does not find the same error, nor do third-party disk utility applications. Note: Only MountCheck errors reported on the Mac OS X Public Beta startup volume should be regarded as erroneous.
Products affected Solution Download Disk First Aid 8.6, which has been updated to recognize changes brought by Mac OS X Public Beta.
Disk First Aid 8.6 can be downloaded from Apple Software Updates: http://asu.info.apple.com/swupdates.nsf/artnum/n11889
Note: This error on the part of Disk First Aid 8.5.5 should not interfere with normal operation. It occurs because Disk First Aid does not properly recognize some information that Mac OS X Public Beta uses to manage its volumes. You may safely ignore this error. When any other error occurs beyond the exact circumstance described here, you should repair them with an Apple or third-party utility. Any error that cannot be repaired should be treated with appropriate precautions. Normally, this would include making a backup copy of data on the disk followed by an initialization of the disk.
