The Network panel of System Preferences in Mac OS X Public Beta does not offer a DHCP Client ID field.

DISCUSSION

    DHCP Client ID description

A DHCP Client ID is an extra piece of information that servers from some Internet service providers or networks might require to give your computer a DHCP lease. "Lease" may be loosely described as the ability for your computer's TCP/IP settings to be automatically set up for a connection to a network.

Connecting to a network without a DHCP Client ID

Most Internet service providers and networks do not require the DHCP Client ID. Mac OS 9 provided a field in the TCP/IP control panel for this information, but Mac OS X Public Beta does not. Apple may include this feature in a future software version.

Even if your network requires the DHCP Client ID, you may still be able to connect if your network administrator or Internet service provider can give you the following information:
    • IP address
    • router address
    • subnet mask
    • name server (DNS) address

Once you have this information, manually enter it in the Network panel of the System Preferences application.
