TOPIC Sherlock 2 indexing of the Mac OS X Public Beta startup volume may result in undesirable time and disk space consumption. DISCUSSION The Classic Sherlock 2 application offers the option of creating indexes of the volumes (disks or disk partitions) on your computer. By default, this option is turned on and set to index all Mac OS Standard (HFS) and Mac OS Extended (HFS Plus) volumes at midnight every day. If the Classic environment is in use at midnight, Sherlock 2 will automatically begin to create the indexes. Due to the large number of files contained in the Mac OS X Public Beta structure, as compared to Mac OS 9, creating the index may require larger amounts of time and disk space than normal. It is recommended that you disable Sherlock 2 indexing for the Mac OS X Public Beta startup volume. To disable automatic indexing:
2. Choose Index Volumes from the Find menu. 3. Next to the Mac OS X Public Beta startup volume name, uncheck the box in the Use Schedule column. Note: The Mac OS X version of Sherlock will not index the Mac OS X Public Beta startup volume. Therefore, this issue only affects Sherlock 2 in the Classic environment. |
