TOPIC The NetProbe application included with Mac OS X Public Beta fails to complete a DNS Lookup when used in certain configurations. DISCUSSION
Symptom When you attempt to look up an Internet host with NetProbe, it gives you this result:
Address: 0.0.0.0 Solution This issue occurs for one or more of these reasons: If DNS services work normally outside of NetProbe, then use this workaround:
2. Choose Ping from the pop-up menu. 3. Type the hostname you want to look up into the Computer field. 4. Click Start. 5. After the first line or two of response appears, click Stop. The first line of Ping response will contain the host's IP address. For example:
Your Network preferences must not be set to No Connection if you wish to use NetProbe or any other TCP/IP application. If you don't know your computer's TCP/IP settings or how to check for DNS function, follow the steps below. How to check your DNS settings:
2. Click Network. 3. Click the DNS tab. 4. Look to see if the proper DNS settings for your network or Internet service provider appear here. How to check your IP address settings:

This ensures that you are not viewing cached content. If this test fails, then check that your Network preferences are correct for your Internet service provider or network.
