The Mac OS 9 Software Update control panel does not work in the Classic environment when the computer is started up from Mac OS X Public Beta.

DISCUSSION

    Symptom

The Mac OS 9 Software Update control panel does not work in the Classic environment.

    Product affected

    Mac OS X Public Beta

    Solution

Software Update is a control panel that will, automatically or on demand, download and install Mac OS updates for your computer. The Mac OS 9 version of this control panel does not work in the Classic environment.

Restart your computer from Mac OS 9 to use the Software Update control panel for Mac OS 9.

After software has been updated, you may restart the computer from Mac OS X Public Beta. The Classic environment then takes advantage of the updated Mac OS 9 software. You should also start up your computer from Mac OS 9 to use any other Mac OS 9 software updates. See:

Article 106053: " Mac OS X Public Beta: Cannot Update Disk Drivers in Classic "

Mac OS X Public Beta also includes a version of Software Update designed for updates of Mac OS X system software.
