TOPIC

You must use Mac OS X-native applications to connect to an iDisk. The Classic environment cannot make the initial connection.

DISCUSSION

    Symptom

If you try to connect to an iDisk with the Classic Chooser, an alert box appears with the error text:
The attempted connection to the server has failed. Try again later.

Connection attempts through web browsers also fail.

    Product affected

    Mac OS X Public Beta

    Solution

Use the version of Microsoft Internet Explorer included with Mac OS X Public Beta to connect to your iDisk. Once the iDisk appears on your desktop or in the Finder, Classic applications may also access the iDisk.

    Alternatively, you may:
      1. Choose Connect to Server from the Go menu.
      2. Type "idisk.mac.com" in the URL field.
      3. Click Connect.
      4. Enter your user name and password.
      5. Click Connect.
      6. Click the name of your iDisk.
      7. Click OK.

A future release of Mac OS X may allow iDisk connections to be made in the Classic environment.
