TOPIC Use this procedure to set up broadcast binding instead of the procedure included in the Server Admin Help. DISCUSSION Note: These steps differ from the procedure included in the Server Admin Help. Use the steps described here. Follow these steps to set up broadcast binding:
2. Set up the Mac OS X computer for broadcast, using the Directory Setup tool located in /Applications/Utilities/. 3. Open NetInfo Manager (in /Applications/Utilities/) on the server that hosts the parent NetInfo domain. 4. Find the parent domain and unlock it using the administrator password for the domain. This is the password entered when the domain was created. 5. Select "machines" in the window displaying the contents of the parent domain. 6. Choose New Subdirectory from the Directory menu to create a new machines entry for the computer that is using the IP broadcast protocol to bind to the parent. 7. Double-click "new_directory" in the Value(s) column and assign it the DNS host name of the child computer, such as marketing.demo. 8. Press Return. 9. Choose New Property from the Directory menu. 10. Double-click "new_property" and type "ip_address" . 11. Press Return. 12. Select "ip_address" . 13. Choose New Value from the Directory menu. 14. Double-click "new_value" and type the child computer's IP address, such as 17.254.3.183 . 15. Choose New Property from the Directory menu. 16. Double-click "new_property" and type "serves" . 17. Press Return. 18. Select "serves". 19. Choose New Value from the Directory menu. 20. Double-click "new_value" and type the name and NetInfo tag (filename) of the child domain, separated by a solidus. For example: marketing.demo/local 21. Press Return. 22. Choose Save from the Domain menu, then click Update This Copy. 23. Repeat steps 6 through 22 for each Mac OS X computer that needs to access the parent domain using the IP broadcast protocol. |
