The PowerBook Duo Battery Charger is an optional accessory which can charge two PowerBook Duo batteries. Each battery slot works independently, so a user can insert or remove batteries at any time.
The recharger can be plugged directly into the power adapter that comes with the PowerBook Duo. You can also purchase a second power adapter to attach to the recharger.
Type I, II, and III Duo batteries can all be recharged in the recharger model M1812 (Marketing number M4178LL/B).
Indicator Lights
The lights on the recharger indicate the following:
* No light: the recharger is not plugged in, or the battery is defective. If the light goes off during recharging, the battery is defective.
* Yellow light: the battery is charging.
* Green light: the battery is fully charged.
* Red light: If a red light appears when you place a Type III battery into the recharger, the recharger is either the older model recharger which will not work with a Type III battery, or it is a new recharger that needs to be updated.
To learn more about the different rechargers and how to update a recharger see the TIL article titled, "PowerBook Duo: Type III Battery Q & A."
Recharging Time
Recharging time in the Battery Charger for a fully depleted battery:
One battery - approximately 2 hours
Two batteries - approximately 4.5 hours
It takes about 2 hours to charge a fully depleted battery while in the computer itself.
Both the battery in the PowerBook Duo, as well as a battery in the external charger, can be charged simultaneously using the same power supply. The charge times will differ depending on the following circumstances:
* The PowerBook is on and contains a battery that is not fully charged: The computer will charge the internal battery first, which should take about 2 hours. The external battery will not begin to charge until the internal battery is fully charged. After this, if the computer is in use, it will take approximately another 2 hours for one external battery or approximately another 4.5 hours for two external batteries to fully charge.
* The PowerBook is in sleep or shut down and contains an internal battery that is not fully charged. The internal and external batteries will charge simultaneously. If both batteries are fully depleted, it will take approximately 4.5 hours to charge both batteries.
* The PowerBook is in sleep or shut down and the internal battery is fully charged or absent. The external battery charges as if the recharger were not connected to the computer. If fully depleted, it will take about 2 hours to recharge.
