The Macintosh PowerBook Express Modem features high-speed data communications and fax send/receive capability for members of the PowerBook family.
The Express Modem is available in two models:
* one for the PowerBook 160 and PowerBook 180
* one for the PowerBook Duo family.
There is no difference in features between the two. Each is a low-power modem that fits neatly into the computer.
The PowerBook Express Modem can send data at a rate as high as 14,400 bits per second (bps) when communicating with compatible V.32bis modems.
In terms of compatibility, the Express Modem supports the Hayes AT command set CCITT, Bell, Hayes, and Fax Group 3 standards.
When running the Express Fax software that comes with the modem, you can send and receive faxes at 9600 bps. The package also supports fax forwarding, quick-send, and calling card. The Fax Viewer application lets you view, copy, print, and save faxes as MacDraw-compatible documents.
The modem software takes over the external modem port. When the modem is turned on, it requires 300K of system RAM.
