TOPIC This article describes three products from Access Privilege, now known as Axio Systems, sold under the SAGEM brand. They allow Macintosh users access to ISDN (Integrated Service Digital Networks). DISCUSSION The products mentioned in this article are now under the control of Axio Systems and sold under the SAGEM brand. You can get additional up to date information from their Web site at http://www.axio.nl/ISDN.html . Access Privilege has announced the availability in the United States of three ISDN products: The Planet-ISDN NuBus card, TheLink, and EasyTransfer software. Macintosh users can now transfer a 1MB file between San Francisco and New York on a single ISDN line in less than a minute, while talking to the person at the other end of the line. A company based in Atlanta can reliably interconnect its AppleTalk network with the corresponding networks in its European and Japanese subsidiaries. A Marketing Manager in New York can set up a video conference with sales representatives in Washington, Miami, or Boston through his Macintosh. There are already several companies in Europe, Australia, and Japan making use of these solutions in their daily work. * Planet-ISDN, is a NuBus card designed by EuRoNIS, an Access Privilege subsidiary company, to connect the Macintosh to national and international ISDN. Planet-ISDN is available in 18 countries and is now compatible with ISDN-1, the American standard adopted by AT&T, Northern Telecom, and Siemens Stromberg-Carlson, for which conformance tests have been passed at Bellcore. Planet-ISDN is compatible with Apple Computer Inc.'s Communications ToolBox and Telephone Manager. * TheWave, created by a partnership between Apple Computer Inc. and Access Privilege, is the only software solution capable of transparently interconnecting remote AppleTalk networks (LocalTalk, EtherTalk and TokenTalk) through ISDN and X25. TheWave provides access to various services present on all networks according to privileges defined by the administrators. TheWave is compatible with the Communications ToolBox, working naturally with the Planet-ISDN board. * EasyTransfer is software developed by Access Privilege for exchanging files or folders between remote Macintoshes through ISDN. It can be used with no special telecommunications knowledge. Its protected protocol, incorporating APC compression, optimizes transfers. Transfer speeds of up to 190 kbs/s have been achieved on a 64 kbs/s ISDN B channel using EasyTransfer and the Planet-ISDN board. EasyTransfer is compatible with the Communications ToolBox. Planet-ISDN is a registered trademark of EuRoNIS. TheLink, EasyTransfer, and APC are registered trademarks of Access Privilege.
