TOPIC

To improve print quality, the StyleWriter II automatically cleans and purges its ink cartridge by wiping paper fibers and dried ink from the print head.

DISCUSSION

The StyleWriter II cleans and purges its ink cartridge by wiping the surface of the ink nozzles to remove paper fibers, capping the ink cartridge with a rubber cover, then pumping a small amount of fresh ink into the cartridge's ink nozzles. The entire process takes approximately 13 seconds.

    Automatic Operation

Automatic cleaning and purging occurs when:

    • The StyleWriter II is first switched on after being plugged in.
    • The ink cartridge is replaced.
    • The printer is first switched on more than 72 hours after the last cleaning operation.
    • A user chooses to clean and purge the ink cartridge (manual operation below).

    Manual Operation

To clean and purge the ink cartridge at any time:

      1. Select Options in the Print dialog box.

      2. Select the box labeled "Clean ink cartridge before printing".

Cleaning and purging does consume a small amount of ink (about 0.1 cc). If you repeat the process unnecessarily, you will reduce the life of the cartridge.
