DISCUSSION The LaserWriter Pro 630 printer has an internal and an external SCSI port so a user can attach SCSI hard disk drives for extra font storage. The external SCSI port uses an Apple HDI-30 connector instead of the 25-pin DB-connector used on the LaserWriter II series. This SCSI connector is placed several inches from the bottom of the printer; most hard drives will require a SCSI cable extender in addition to an Apple HDI-30 SCSI System Cable (Apple Part Number M2538LL/A) to rest in their normal position. Note that external SCSI drives that are connected to a LaserWriter Pro 630 must have an Apple SCSI Cable Terminator II (Apple Part Number (M5871G/A) at the end of the SCSI chain. This terminator is black and is the same type of terminator used with the Macintosh IIfx, LaserWriter IIf and IIg. If the wrong SCSI terminator is used, attached hard drives may not be recognized. There is also a 40-pin internal SCSI port that accommodates an internal 2.5-inch SCSI hard drive. You do not need to attach a SCSI terminator to an internal hard disk. Both SCSI ports are meant for media use only and can not be used for connecting the printer to a computer. Users can attach up to seven SCSI hard disks to the LaserWriter Pro 630. The LaserWriter Pro 630 recognizes only those drives that have been formatted for use with a LaserWriter IIf, IIg, or drives that have been initialized using the LaserWriter Utility.
