TOPIC
The Macintosh 32-Bit System Enabler is a system software extension that provides access to the memory addressing features of system software 7.1. This is the MODE32 replacement product.
DISCUSSION System Requirements =================== The 32-Bit System Enabler requires a Macintosh II, IIx, IIcx, or SE/30 with system software version 7.1 installed, 4 megabytes (MB) of RAM or more, an Apple FDHD SuperDrive, and a Paged Memory Management Unit (PMMU). What the Enabler Does ===================== The 32-Bit System Enabler provides unrestricted use of the system software's memory expansion features. Without these capabilities, these systems do not have the internal capabilities to take advantage of 32-bit addressing. Macintosh 32-bit addressing allows use of more than 8 MB of RAM. The Macintosh II can access up to 68 MB of RAM when the extension is installed. The Macintosh IIx, IIcx, and SE/30 can access up to 128 MB of physical RAM. Only users running System 7.1 (or higher) with these systems should install this enabler. Besides the additional RAM, the system software extension can also access virtual memory. A paged memory management unit (PMMU) is necessary to access virtual memory using a Macintosh II. Installation ============ To install the 32-Bit System Enabler, follow these steps:
2. Restart the Macintosh. How To Turn On 32-bit Addressing ================================
2. Open the Memory control panel. 3. In the section for 32-Bit Addressing, click On. 4. Restart the Macintosh. After Installation ================== Turn off Balloon Help When Using the Color Wheel ------------------------------------------------ Turn off Balloon Help when you use the color wheel dialog box. (The color wheel dialog box appears when you choose a color in many programs and control panels.) Upgrade SuperClock to v3.9.1 ---------------------------- If you use SuperClock version 3.9 or earlier, you need to upgrade to version 3.9.1 (available on many public bulletin boards). Availability ============ The Macintosh 32-Bit System Enabler is licensed to users free of charge through various on-line services, including America- Online and CompuServe. The enabler will also be available through Macintosh user groups in the United States. Note: This article mentions an Apple software update.
