PowerBook G4 Titanium DVD-ROM Update
The PowerBook G4 Titanium DVD-ROM Update improves support for the insertion and mounting of optical media. The DVD-ROM Update places new firmware on the Apple DVD-ROM drive installed in PowerBook G4 Titanium computers.
Installation Requirements
Installation requires a PowerBook G4 Titanium with an internal DVD-ROM drive and Mac OS 9.1 or later version installed. This update is not for computers using Mac OS X. You must startup your computer using Mac OS 9.1 to use this update.
Updating Your DVD-ROM Firmware
To update the firmware on your DVD-ROM drive, follow these steps:
1. Make sure your PowerBook's power cord is connected and plugged into a working power source.
2. Save all open documents and quit all applications.
3. If a disc is in the DVD-ROM drive, eject it by dragging its icon to the Trash.
4. Open the DVD-ROM Update application by double-clicking the icon.
5. When you see the opening dialog box, click Continue to update the drive firmware.
6. Once the firmware is updated, the Update application quits. Restart your computer.
If you have problems updating your firmware, see "Tips and Troubleshooting," later in this document.
WARNING
Do not reset, shut down, or turn off power to your computer while the DVD-ROM update is in progress. Doing so may render your DVD-ROM drive unusable. Do not insert a disc while the DVD-ROM Update is running. Doing so may cause long delays in the updating process and may cancel the update.
Tips and Troubleshooting
You may see one of the following messages if your drive does not need updating:
-
"This drive does not need this update."
Your computer has a different CD or DVD drive model and does not need this update. The application quits without changing anything on your computer.
-
"This drive has already been updated."
Your DVD-ROM drive has already been updated to this firmware version. The application quits without changing anything on your computer.
