AppleTalk Remote Access lets you communicate with another Macintosh or an AppleTalk network over standard telephone lines. For example, you can log on to your Macintosh at work while you're at home.

What You Need Remote Access document information (from the server administrator):
Turn Off Virus Software If you use a virus detection program, follow the instructions in the manual to turn it off. Install AppleTalk Remote Access
2. Double-click the disk icon to open it. A window appears. 3. Double-click the Installer icon. The Welcome screen appears. 4. Click the OK button (or press Return). The Installer screen appears. 5. If the name of your hard disk doesn't appear, click the Switch Disk button until it does. 6. Click the Install button (or press Return). If any applications are open on your hard disk, a message appears. 7. Click the Continue button (or press Return). Messages appear to inform you of the installation's progress. If you're using the 800K disk, messages prompt you for the proper disks. When installation finishes, a message appears. 8. Click the Restart button (or press Return). 9. Create a Connection Document
2. Type your user name. 3. Type your password (upper case and lower case letters MUST match). * 4. Type the server's phone number. 5. Choose Save from the File menu. A dialog box appears. 6. Type the name of the connection document. 7. Click the Save button (or press Return). Connect with AppleTalk Remote Access
2. Type your password. As a security precaution, you will not see it as you're typing -- only dots appear. 3. Click the Connect button. Your modem calls the server's modem. The program compares connection document information to the server's database. If it matches, the server's modem calls you at the predetermined phone number. 4. Select zones and shared volumes from the Chooser. (Your Macintosh at work appears as a server in your zone if you have its file sharing turned on.) 5. When you are finished with your session, click the Disconnect button. 6. Choose Quit from the File menu to leave AppleTalk Remote Access. |
