TOPIC I want to purchase the new Apple Workgroup Server (AWS) 95. I want to use five mirrored hard drives, a total of 10 physical hard drives. DISCUSSION
Yes, it is possible to have five mirrored hard drives (total of 10 physical hard drives) within an AWS 95. In theory, a total of 28 (seven drives for the four SCSI Buses) hard drives can be connected to an AWS 95. However since SCSI ID 0 is reserved for Macintosh, and eight drives are the maximum that can be placed inside the computer via the two internal SCSI Buses, the practical total number of physical hard disk drives is 20 (8 + (6 x 2)). The AWS 95 is capable of supporting disk mirroring. However, the third-party disk manufactures have to provide drives which implement the Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks (RAID) level 1 disk mirroring technology in the drive. Below is a partial list of RAID providers for the AWS 95, you should contact them directly. To locate a vendor's address and phone number, use the vendor name as a search string. The following partial list of RAID providers are for the AWS 80 and AWS 60, you should contact them directly. To locate a vendor's address and phone number, use the vendor name as a search string. |
