This article describes the expansion slot in the Macintosh Centris 660AV.

DISCUSSION

The Centris 660AV has a expansion slot similar to the Centris 610
expansion slot and can be used in two different ways:

    1) You can install a PDS (Processor Direct Slot) card directly into
    the slot.

    2) You can install a 7-inch NuBus card after installing the optional
    Centris 660AV NuBus adapter card.

    PDS Cards
    ---------
A PDS (Processor Direct Slot) implementation brings the microprocessor
address, control, and data lines, along with clock, power, and a few
model-specific signals, to a single expansion connector on the main logic
board. Apple uses the PDS expansion interface on selected Macintosh models
as another option for system expansion.

PDS cards can be designed to work in both the Centris 610 and the Centris
660AV. However, there are some signal changes in the Centris 660AV, so not
all current PDS cards will work in both models.

    NuBus Cards
    -----------
The Centris 660AV accepts one 7-inch NuBus card when the optional
Centris 660AV NuBus adapter card is installed in the Centris 660AV
    expansion slot.

The Centris 660AV NuBus adapter card also includes the DAV connector.
This connector provides direct access to audio and video data directly
from the logic board. In the Centris 660AV, the DAV connector is located
on the optional NuBus adapter. Uses for DAV cards could include a graphics
accelerator, audio/visual compression/decompression tasks, or provide
    PhotoShop plug in enhancements.

    NuBus 90 Implementation
    -----------------------
This NuBus implementation is based on the NuBus '90 specification.
Variances from previous Quadra and Centris models include:

    * The ability to control power on and off from a NuBus card
    (Quadra 840AV only)

    * Faster data transfer rates including a 20 MHz card to card transfer
rate that provides throughput rates at up to 80 MB per second.
