DISCUSSION The preset sound sample rate for your computer is 24 kilohertz (kHz). This sample rate is required for speech recognition and for telecommunications. If you are not using either speech or telecommunications, you can change the sound sample rate (in the Sound Out section of the Sound control panel) to 22.05 kHz, 44.1 kHz, or 48 kHz. These three sample rates generally offer better sound quality if the sound source is a compact disc (CD) or digital audio tape (DAT). (If you use speech and telecommunications capabilities frequently, it's probably a good idea to keep the sample rate set at 24 kHz.) |
