TOPIC

The StyleWriter ink cartridges (both StyleWriter & StyleWriter II) are
clogging. The print head moves but no ink comes out.

DISCUSSION

This is caused by air in the cartridge. When installing a new cartridge be
sure the purge function occurs BEFORE any printing is attempted.

For the StyleWriter, this function is initialed by the user.

For StyleWriter II two purges are performed automatically when the cartridge is
replaced. In the event that the cartridge does not print have the user check
that the purge boot is correctly in place and the orange cartridge tape is
removed from the print head. The user should purge the cartridge 5 times. If
this does not cure the problem, it is likely the cartridge has been damaged.
The damage is due to a film that develops when the heating element inside the
print head heats up without ink.

The fix is to replace the cartridge. Always purge a new cartridge 5 times.
StyleWriter II customers will get 2 automatic purges, so they will only need 3
additional. This will prevent repeat occurrences.
NOTE: Most StyleWriter II cartridges work fine after the 2 automatic purges.
