I have a Macintosh LC computer. Are there specific brands and model numbers of batteries that can serve as replacements for the LC battery? The Apple part number, 742-0011, is sometimes in short supply.
DISCUSSION
A number of Macintosh systems use the same 1/2AA 3.6-3.9V lithium battery that powers the clock chip after the computer is shut down. (See the table below for a complete listing.) The battery has a life span of approximately 7 years and should be replaced when the clock begins to lose accuracy or when the contents of the parameter RAM are not maintained after powering down the system.
There are altenative sources for the batteries. For example, this part may be available through Sun Remarketing. In addition, computer stores may have the kind of batteries you will need; below is a list of replacement batteries:
