DISCUSSION The╩three Power Macintosh systems initially were loaded with System 7.1.2. This release of system software was modified to support the PowerPC processor. In addition, the following items were included with System 7.1.2: SimpleText ---------- TeachText has been updated. This new version is called SimpleText. It allows the selection of different fonts, font sizes and styles. It also supports sound. A SimpleText document can store a single digital recording. In addition, there are menu selections which support PlainTalk of the text. Extras Folder ------------- In addition to the PowerPC system changes the following items are bundled with the system and installed in an Extras folder: * AppleScript 1.1 extension including Script Editor application, sample scripts and "Getting Started With AppleScript" in DocViewer format. * CPU Energy Saver (for Power Macintosh 7100/66, 7100/66AV, 8100/80, and 8100/80AV computers): The computer can be set to turn on or off automatically, using the CPU Energy Saver control panel. IMPORTANT: CPU Energy Saver does not work on Power Macintosh 6100/60 or 6100/60AV computers. * Energy Saver (for monitors): This control panel allows the monitor to go into low power mode after the computer has been idle for a specified amount of time. The Energy Saver can be used in the following situations: * A Power Macintosh computer (or a Macintosh Quadra, Centris, or LC III computers) * 2 MB of available RAM * System Software version 7.1 * An Apple monitor that complies with the United States Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star guidelines for energy conservation (the monitor must be plugged into the built-in monitor port, not into an expansion card) * FusionRecorder: This audio and video capture program records and plays high-quality sound and, if you have an AV-equipped Power Macintosh, QuickTime video movies. * LaserWriter 8.1.1: The LaserWriter 8.1.1 driver is installed in the Extras folder. The System folder has the LaserWriter 7.1.2 driver installed. * Graphing Calculator: This program demonstrates your Power Macintosh computer's speed, and shows how speed can improve a Macintosh application program's performance. For more information about this program, start the program and select Help from the Equation menu. A self-running demonstration program can be viewed by selecting Full Demo from the Demo menu. * Video Monitor: The Video Monitor program allows the computer to display a live video image in a window on the screen and to capture one frame of the video image. A Power Macintosh 6100/60AV, 7100/66AV, or 8100/80AV computer is required. In addition video equipment must be connected to your computer's video ports. * DocViewer: To view the AppleScript Guide or the FusionRecorder Read Me file, a program called DocViewer is required. DocViewer displays files for you to read on the screen. It can be used to search for specific topics in files, and print out pages of information. The DocViewer Read Me file explains how to use DocViewer. Article Change History: 09 Jan 1995 - Noted that 7.1.2 was installed on the early Power Macintosh computers. Support Information Services |
