    When dialing international telephone numbers with my Newton MessagePad, a pound sign "#" appears after the telephone number in the call slip. Why?

DISCUSSION

    By adding the pound sign "#" at the end of a telephone number, it informs the phone system that the Newton MessagePad is finished dialing the number. Without the pound sign at the end of the number, phone systems must wait several seconds in order to determine that the all numbers have been entered. This feature was added to the Newton MessagePad 100 and 110. It was not available on the original MessagePad.
