TOPIC

I have a LaserWriter Pro 630 connect to a Macintosh using the LocalTalk port. I also have a Sun workstation connected to the printer using the RS-232 port. I want to print both PostScript and non-PostScript files without reconfiguring the printer. Can I do this?

DISCUSSION

This can be done by setting the default mode for both ports to be
PostScript and then on a per job basis change the mode to be PCL (text). To change from PostScript to PCL, do the following:

    1. Put the thumb-wheel selection switch to #1. This sets up both the RS-232
port and the LocalTalk port to PostScript.

    2. Append the following PostScript command to the front of a text file.

currentfile /LaserJetIIP statusdict /emulate get exec

Note: the command is case sensitive.
