TOPIC

This article describes an issue where the status does not change from, Starting Network Protocols, with Apple Remote Access (ARA) 3.0 after connection to the server.

DISCUSSION

If the status does not change from "Starting Network Protocols" to "Connected" for about a minute, you should check network services (such as the Chooser, TCP/IP control panel if using TCP/IP, and so on) to see if they are available. If network services are present, this is a cosmetic error and the you can close the control panel and continue working.

This cosmetic issue is fixed in ARA 3.0.2 and later. ARA Personal Server users can download the 3.0.2 update at http://asu.info.apple.com/swupdates.nsf/artnum/n11436 . ARA Client users can upgrade to Mac OS 8.5 or later.

If network services are not available, this is an actual error and you should proceed with standard network troubleshooting.
