    Important Information About Printing

The LPT port on the PC Serial and Parallel Card is configured to be in Extended Capability Port (ECP) mode. If you use DOS you may experience problems when you try to print through the parallel port on some brands of printers.

If you experience problems, try one of the following solutions:

Solution 1: Print on a printer connected to your Mac OS computers. LPT2 is the port for a printer connected to the Mac OS.

Solution 2: Install Windows 95. Then use the DOS shell to print from your DOS applications.

Before You Connect a Printer to the Parallel Port

IMPORTANT The PC Serial and Parallel Card uses LPT 1 by default. If you are using the LPT 1 printer port for a printer connected to your Mac OS computer, you must change the port to LPT 2 if you plan to continue to use this printer as well as one connected to the PC Serial and Parallel Card.

Follow these steps in Windows 95 to change the printer port of the printer connected to your Mac OS computer:
      1. If you have not updated your PC Compatibility Card software as described in Chapter 6, do so now.
      2. Click the Start button. Choose Settings from the menu that appears; then choose Printers.
      3. Double-click the icon of the printer connected to your Mac OS computer.
      4. Choose Properties from the Printer menu. The Properties window opens.
      5. Click the Details tab in the Properties window.
      6. Choose LPT 2 (Printer Port) from the "Print to the following port" menu. If LPT 2 (Printer Port) does not appear as a choice, check to see that you PC Serial and Parallel Card is installed properly.
      7. Click OK.
      8. Close the Printer window.
Print a page to verify that the printer works properly.
