Can I use peripherals attached to my other Macintosh over Ethernet?
DISCUSSION Yes. PortSharePro and SCSIShare are the names of two products from Stalker Software that let iMac customers share peripherals attached to other Macintosh computers on a network. The former, PortSharePro, lets iMac share peripherals connected to the serial ports (modem or printer) of other Macintosh computers on a network. The latter, SCSIShare, lets iMac share peripherals connected to the SCSI port of other Macintosh computers on a network. How It Works Let's say you have connected iMac to a network using the built-in 10/100BASE-T Ethernet that comes with every iMac. On the same network you have a Performa 5200 with a scanner connected to the SCSI port and a Macintosh IIsi that has a StyleWriter printer connected to the modem and a CoStar LabelWriter printer connected to the printer port. After installing the appropriate software on iMac over the network, PortSharePro allows your iMac to print to either of the printers attached to the serial ports on the earlier Macintosh, and SCSIShare allows your iMac to utilize the scanner, even though all of the peripherals are attached to other computers on the network.
