    Important Information about the G3 CD Update

    What is G3 CD Update?
    In some Power Macintosh G3 systems, if a CD is in the CD-ROM drive, the system may freeze when put to sleep, or may experience long delays when waking up. The G3 CD Update is a utility which updates the firmware on the CD-ROM drive to eliminate these sleep problems.

    Who needs to use G3 CD Update?
    The G3 CD Update should be used on all Power Macintosh G3 systems with CD-ROM drives.

    Installing the G3 CD Update

    To install the G3 CD Update, please follow these steps:
      1. Save all open documents and close all applications before running the G3 CD Update. The G3 CD Update will shut down the Macintosh when it finishes the firmware update.
      2. If a CD-ROM disc is in the CD-ROM drive, unmount the volume and eject the disc. If there is an internal Zip drive with a Zip disk in it, that disk should also be unmounted and ejected.
      3. Double click the application "G3 CD Update."
      4. Click "continue" on the dialog box when it appears.
      5. If the application is unable to update the firmware on your CD-ROM drive, you may have a system which is not affected by this problem, or the firmware may already be updated.
      6. The application will inform you when it has finished, and will automatically shut down. You may restart your Macintosh at any time after that.

    IMPORTANT: It is very important that you do not reset, shut down, or remove power from your computer while the G3 CD Update is running. Resets, shutdowns, or power removal may cause damage to your CD-ROM drive.

    If you experience problems and are not able to update the firmware using this utility, then you should contact your local authorized Apple dealer.
