TOPIC
On August 24, 1998, Apple Computer, Inc. announced the availability of Apple Network Assistant 3.5, the Company's remote management software. Designed for network administrators primarily in business and education markets, Apple Network Assistant 3.5 simplifies the task of managing a group of networked Mac OS-based computers from a central location over TCP/IP and AppleTalk networks.
DISCUSSION Behaviors that may be experienced include:
2. There may be slow performance or hangs for some Power Macintosh G3 client workstations if you use Share Screen, Observe, or Control mode. 3. When using certain DHCP servers and having captured TCP/IP client workstations, the Names listed in the Workstation List may refer to the wrong client workstations after using Network Assistant to remotely restart these client workstations. 4. There may be difficulties switching from multi-workstation Observe mode to single workstation Control or Observe mode on TCP/IP client workstations. 5. Unavailability of 22kHz sound input on the iMac and Power Macintosh G3 (Blue & White) does not allow the Talk or Announce features to work for either client or administrator workstations. 6. Icons may not redraw correctly on Mac OS 8.5 client workstations being controlled or observed. 7. The Workstation list may show duplicate entries for TCP/IP client workstations in the Network Assistant 3.5 Kanji version. Apple Computer has posted the Apple Network Assistant Updater version 3.5.2 to the Apple Support Software Updates web site: < http://asu.info.apple.com/ >. It provides fixes to the above compatibility issues. Customers can only update from version 3.5 (which includes version 3.5.1 of the Network Assistant application and version 3.5 of the Network Assistant Startup extension and Network Assistant Security) to version 3.5.2. Known Limitations of Network Assistant 3.5 For best screen sharing performance when using Mac OS 8.0 or later, there should not be a large number of icons on the desktop on client workstations. When the Copy Item feature is used to copy a locked file to a client workstation, the copy will be performed. However, the copied file will not be locked. |
