TOPIC
I have a network that is running Mac OS X Server. Macintosh Manager is giving me weird errors; privileges are in disarray and some computers will no longer net boot. And, Network Assistant says that I have already added a computer that I know I have not. What can cause these things to occur?
DISCUSSION It may be that one or more users set the name of their computer using the File Sharing control panel, and then added their computer to the network. By coincidence, the name the person assigned to the computer is already in use out on the network. In such a case, the computer will function properly if File Sharing is turned off, though Macintosh Manager and Network Assistant are effected. If the user turns on File Sharing, an error message will appear. The message will state that the name already exists (out on the network). To verify that each computer on your network has a unique name assigned through the File Sharing control panel, turn on File Sharing on each computer. Computers with duplicate names will display an error message. |
