TOPIC

I was browsing the Internet using Microsoft Internet Explorer when my computer crashed. Now Internet Explorer freezes every time I try to open it. Sometimes I see a dialog box with no contents, sometimes the top of the browser window becomes garbled, and sometimes the cursor just freezes. I tried reinstalling Internet Explorer but that did not resolve the situation. What next?

DISCUSSION

Like many other Internet programs, Internet Explorer makes use of the Internet Preferences file. When that file becomes corrupt, unexpected results can occur. To allow Internet Explorer to start up normally, drag the Internet Preferences file from your Preferences folder to the Trash and restart the computer. Then use the Internet control panel to reconfigure your preferred Internet settings.
