TOPIC

I heard that I should always use a minimum disk cache setting when working with video. What is the optimal disk cache setting when using Final Cut Pro?

DISCUSSION

In the past it was generally a good idea to minimize the disk cache size when working with video since video is a type of data not likely to be reused in the near future. However, today's faster processors and more intelligent memory management have made this practice less necessary.

For capturing DV video in Final Cut Pro using Apple's built-in FireWire hardware, the default disk cache setting on your computer is fine. For third-party video capture cards, please check with the hardware vendor for specific recommendations.

For playback and editing within Final Cut Pro, the default disk cache setting is fine.
