TOPIC

When playing a movie from a DVD-Video disc, sound does not play through USB speakers connected to the computer. This article lists the affected computers and offers a solution.

DISCUSSION

    Symptom

When playing a movie from a DVD-Video disc, you can't hear the movie through USB speakers connected to the computer. Other sounds, such as alert sounds and CD audio, can be heard through the USB speakers. You can hear the movie if you use the computer's built-in speaker(s) instead of the USB speakers.

    Products affected

    • Apple DVD Player 1.3 or earlier
    • PowerBook G3 Series (Bronze keyboard)
    • Power Macintosh G3 with third-party USB card
    • Power Macintosh G3 (Blue and White)
    • Power Mac G4 (PCI Graphics)

    Solution

    • Use the computer's built-in speaker(s).
    • Connect external speakers or headphones to the computer's analog sound output port. (Some USB speakers accept analog input. Check the documentation that came with the speakers to see if they can be simultaneously connected to the sound output port on the back of your computer.)
