Brightness and contrast controls are not available in Mac OS X Public Beta.

Symptom

The Monitors pane in the System Preferences application displays two controls (Brightness and Contrast), both of which are dimmed.

These software-based controls are not available in Mac OS X Public Beta.

If the your computer's monitor has its own built-in brightness and contrast controls, use them to make the desired adjustment(s).
