    The Startup Manager may not display valid Mac OS X startup disks. Use the System Disk control panel, or the System Preferences application to select Mac OS X startup disks.


DISCUSSION

    Symptom

    If you start up from a Mac OS 9 disk and access the Startup Manager (by pressing and holding down the Option key when the computer is turned on), the Startup Manager does not display available Mac OS X startup disks.

    Solution

    When started up with Mac OS 9:
      1. Open the System Disk control panel, which is available on the Mac OS X Public Beta CD.
      2. Click the system disk you wish to use.
      3. Close the control panel.
      4. Restart the computer.

    When started up with Mac OS X Public Beta:
      1. Open the System Preferences application.
      2. Click Startup Disk to open that pane.
      3. Click the lock to make changes.
      4. Enter the user name and password of an administrator.
      5. Click the icon for the startup disk you want to use.
      6. Quit the System Preferences application.
      7. Restart the computer.
