TOPIC

If you give a hard disk partition the same name as one of the basic folders used by Mac OS X Public Beta, the folder may not be visible or available.

DISCUSSION

    Symptom

After installing Mac OS X Public Beta, one of the system's folders (such as "Applications" or "Library") is not visible or available.

    Products affected

    • Mac OS X Public Beta

    Solution

Rename the hard disk partition. A hard disk partition should not have the same name as one of the basic folders used by Mac OS X Public Beta. Do not use any of these reserved names when naming a hard disk partition:

    • Applications
    • Library
    • Mac OS 9
    • System

Other names that are similar-sounding are acceptable and cause no conflict with Mac OS X Public Beta. For instance, "Apps", "OS 9 System", "My Library".
