TOPIC

Flat panel LCD displays require a warm-up period to reach normal brightness.

DISCUSSION

A number of Apple products use flat panel, liquid crystal display (LCD) technology, including:

    • PowerBook computers
    • iBook computers
    • Apple Cinema Displays
    • Apple Studio Displays

These products use backlighting and reflective techniques to produce a bright image.

When you first turn on a backlit display, or wake it from a lengthy sleep, its brightness gradually increases until it reaches a normal operating temperature. This warm-up period can range from several minutes to over an hour, depending upon the display size and the environment in which it is being used.
