TOPIC

After installing CarbonLib 1.3.1 on a computer with Mac OS 8.6, the Application Switcher does not "tear off" from the Application menu. This article offers both a solution and a workaround.

DISCUSSION

    Symptom

After installing CarbonLib 1.3.1, the Application Switcher does not "tear off" into a miniwindow from the Application menu.

    Products affected

    • CarbonLib 1.3.1
    • Mac OS 8.6

    Solution

The solution differs, depending upon whether your computer has multiple processors.

    Macintosh without Multiple Processors
      1. Locate the file named "Multiprocessing API Library". It is in the Multiprocessing folder, inside the Extensions folder, which is inside the System Folder.
      2. Drag the Multiprocessing API Library file out of the System Folder (to the desktop, for instance).
      3. Restart the computer.

Alternatively, you may revert to CarbonLib 1.2.5, though you will be unable to use application programs that depend on CarbonLib version 1.3.1.

CarbonLib 1.2.5 is available from Apple Software Updates ( http://www.apple.com/swupdates/ ).

    Macintosh with Multiple Processors

Upgrade from Mac OS 8.6 to any later version of Mac OS.

Alternatively, you may revert to CarbonLib 1.2.5, though you will be unable to use application programs that depend on CarbonLib version 1.3.1.

CarbonLib 1.2.5 is available from Apple Software Updates ( http://www.apple.com/swupdates/ ).
