How NFNT Format Differs From FONT Format?
DISCUSSION Macintosh fonts are stored as resources, either as type FONT or type NFNT. The two font types have the same format. NFNT (New FoNT) is new to the 128K ROM version of the Font Manager (64K ROMs ignore resources of type NFNT). NFNT allows for many more fonts. An NFNT resource type can also be used to mask all but plain fonts from appearing in a font menu. In this way, the system resource file can contain Times, Times Italic, Times Bold, and Times Bold Italic, yet only Times appears in the Font menu. (The user would need to choose Italic from the Style menu.) For more information, see the Font Manager chapter of Inside Macintosh, Volume V. |
