TOPIC

Is there a way to set the Newton Internet Enabler to access proxy servers?

DISCUSSION

Newton Internet Enabler (NIE) works with applications that support proxy servers (it does not support proxy servers directly).

NIE provides PPP (Point-to-Point Protocol) and TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) support for serial Internet and network Internet connections, respectively. Proxy servers provide security and caching services used on the Internet.

To gain access to proxy services you must use an Internet browser that works with NIE and supports proxy servers, and you must configure the Internet browser appropriately.

NewtScape, from AllPen Software, Inc. < /til1.info.apple.com/techinfo.nsf/artnum/n28021 >, for example, works with NIE and supports proxy servers.

To configure an application for proxy services, contact the manufacturer of that application. (For contact information, click the hypertext link above, or search the TIL using the manufacturer's name and the third-party keyword.)
