TOPIC
If you have performed a clean installation of your system software because of system issues, you may find that moving the missing (third party) items from your previous system folder to your new system folder will recreate the original issue. To avoid this a systematic approach to copying over these missing items will determine which of these items may have caused the issue.
DISCUSSION After doing a clean install of system software you should see two system folders titled: System Folder and Previous System Folder . Open the new System and Previous System folders as separate items by double-clicking on each folder. View by name, side by side, on your desktop, moving and sizing as necessary. First Steps: 1. Copy any folders in the previous system folder but not in the system folder. For example, a Claris or Aldus folder.
2. Restart your computer and try to duplicate the issue.
3. Make a list of the items in one folder within the Previous System folder that are not in the folder of the same name within the System folder. 4. Copy the items on the list from the folder within the Previous System folder to the folder of the same name within the System folder.
5. Restart your computer and try to duplicate the issue.
6. Move the items you copied to desktop back into the System folder one at a time, restarting your computer and trying to duplicate the issue after copying back each item.
7. Repeat steps 3 - 7 for each pair of corresponding folders.
8. When the issue reappears see FINAL STEPS below. Final Steps: 1. Once you have isolated the faulty item, it should be moved to the Trash.
2. Reinstall the item, with extensions turned off, from original disks to see if it recreates the issue.
3. If reinstalling recreates the issue, check with the vendor to see if there is a update/fix for the item. |
