TOPIC The ANAT 2.0 Install and Setup manual states on pg. 19, "When you upgrade At Ease, the Installer saves the old software and your existing information so that you can continue using your existing At Ease system until you are ready to turn it off and turn on the new one." However, the Net Admin Toolkit Read Me file states "If you have earlier versions of the At Ease Server system extension (version 4.x), you need to remove them before using the Server Installer included with ANAT 2.0." DISCUSSION The manual is correct. A more accurate wording for the Read Me would be ... "we RECOMMEND that you remove...." You can install the At Ease 5.0 server on top of the AE 4.0 server. When you install 5.0, a COPY of the old 4.0 database is created and upgraded to 5.0. The original 4.0 database remains intact. Therefore, one COULD run both AE 4.0 and 5.0 on the same server (Of course, they would be running independently--the AE 4.0 server using the AE 4.0 database and the AE 5.0 server using the AE 5.0 database). A school might do this if they wanted to do a phased upgrade to AE 5.0 rather than converting everything at once. In the Read Me, we were trying to strongly encourage people NOT to run both AE 4.0 and 5.0. One potential problem would be users updating their AE 4.0 database and assuming they were updating the 5.0 database, or assuming that any changes they made to the 4.0 database would automatically be made in the 5.0 database. |
