TOPIC

This article describes how to set up video mirring on a Power Macintosh G3 Minitower.

DISCUSSION

In order to enable video mirroring on a G3 Minitower, use the "TV Mirroring" control strip which is automatically installed on G3 Minitowers that have the A/V Personality Card. You can identify this by looking for the control strip that has a picture of a TV with antennas.

Within this control strip, you have several options:
    1. Turn Video Mirroring On
    2. Use NTSC Standard
    3. Use PAL Standard
    4. Overscan
    5. Leave Monitor On

To start video mirroring, select "Turn Video Mirroring On".

    TROUBLESHOOTING:
Question: What if the TV Mirroring control strip is not present?
Answer: Ensure that you have a G3 Minitower with the A/V personality card.
If you have a G3 Desktop, or if you do not have the A/V personality card, then the only way to use video mirroring is via a 3rd party PCI card and you should follow their instructions.

If you do have a G3 Minitower with the A/V personality card and the control strip is not present, do a "custom install" of the "Control Strip" control panel with your Power Macintosh G3 CD.

Question: I have chosen "Turn Video Mirroring On" but I am getting no video on my TV.
Answer: Check your connections and ensure that the RCA or S-Video cable is going from the "video out" ports of your G3, and the "video in" ports of you TV or VCR. Make sure that "Use NTSC Standard is selected within the TV mirroring control strip. Check the video input ports of your TV or VCR with another device.

Question: When I turn video mirroring on, my monitor turns off. Why won't it display to both monitor and my TV simultaneously?
Answer: Check the TV Mirroring Control Strip and ensure that the option "Leave Monitor On" is selected. If "Leave Monitor On" is greyed out, then make sure your monitor is capable of displaying video at one of the following resolutions:

    512x384 @ 60Hz
    640x480 @ 60Hz
    800x600 @ 60Hz
    832x624 @ 60Hz

If your monitor does not support one of those resolutions, it will not be able to display video simultaneously with your TV.

Finally, make sure that both your monitor and TV were connected to the computer before it started up (if you connected your monitor after the computer started up, you will need to restart).
