Network Assistant 3.0.2 Read Me
This Read Me describes version 3.0.2 of Apple Network Assistant, which can be used to update Network Assistant 3.0 and 3.0.1. Apple Network Assistant 3.0 is part of the Apple Network Administrator Toolkit v2.0 product's software suite.
Network Assistant 3.0.2 fixes a potential issue of some user workstation hard disks being erased when communication errors occur when administrators copy and replace files using Network Assistant 3.0 and 3.0.1. Users of Network Assistant 3.0 and 3.0.1 should update to Network Assistant 3.0.2.
Network Assistant 3.0.2 replaces the Network Assistant Startup extension. You need to drag install the new Network Assistant Startup extension on your administrator workstations and all the user workstations that you manage using Network Assistant. You do not need to update the Network Assistant application or the Network Assistant Security application.
Installing Network Assistant 3.0.2
Because of the potential issue with copying and replacing files, you should copy the Network Assistant 3.0.2 software to a floppy disk and using the floppy disk to install Network Assistant3.0.2 on each workstation.
After downloading the Network Assistant 3.0.2 Startup extension, insert a floppy disk and drag the Startup extension to the floppy disk on your desktop.
To administer a workstation using Network Assistant 3.0.2, you must install the new software and restart both the user workstation and the administrator workstation.
To install Network Assistant 3.0.2 on a user workstation or an administrator workstation, follow these steps:
1. Insert the floppy disk containing the Network Assistant 3.0.2 Startup extension into the floppy drive of the workstation.
2. Drag the Network Assistant Startup extension onto the System Folder on the workstation.
3. In the dialog box that appears asking if you want to put the item in the Extensions folder, click OK.
4. In the next dialog box that appears asking if you want to replace the older item, click OK.
5. Restart the workstation.
Note
:
If the user workstations you have upgraded appear unavailable in the workstation list when you open Network Assistant, remove the workstations from the list, then add them to the list again.
Known Limitations of Network Assistant 3.0.2
Network Assistant 3.0.2 is compatible with Mac OS system software version 7.1 and later, including Mac OS versions 8.0 and 8.1.
There are two known limitations of Network Assistant 3.0.2 and Mac OS 8.0 and 8.1:
1. You cannot do disk verification reports of HFS+ formatted hard disks with Network Assistant 3.0.x. You can do disk verification reports of HFS formatted (or Mac OS-formatted) disks only.
2. When you drag an item from a Network Assistant report to your hard disk, the Copy Items dialog reappears after the copy is completed. Clicking Cancel will dismiss this duplicate dialog box.
