I have tried to reposition the Trash Can on my desktop but after I restart, the Trash always reverts to its original position. Am I supposed to be able to move the Trash or not?
DISCUSSION You can place the Trash wherever you want it and it should stay there after a restart. If it does not stay where you place it, the Finder Preferences file is probably is corrupted. This file stores the location for the Trash if you move it out of the default position. To resolve this issue, simply drag the Finder Preferences file, (found in the Preferences folder in the System folder) to the Trash. Do not empty the Trash, the system will not let go of this file yet, it will give you a message that the file is in use. Restart the system and then empty the trash. The system will create a new Finder Preferences file. Now you can move the Trash where you want it and it should stay there. |
