TOPIC

Does Mac OS X Server support Mac OS standard (HFS) and Mac OS extended (HFS+) disk formats?

DISCUSSION

Mac OS X Server supports Mac OS standard and Mac OS extended formats, and volumes with this format can be auto-mounted within the Mach/BSD environment.

Mac OS disk format support is provided by the utility " hfs.util " found in /usr/filesystems/hfs.fs/ . This service is on by default. Administrative access is needed to change its status.

Files that Mac OS X Server inherently understands (.tiff, .html, text, Read Me files, and some others) can be double-clicked within the Mac OS X Server Workspace Manager, and they will open in the appropriate applications. Some other file types may be opened from within an appropriate application.
